Calamity Jane

Last week was the ending party for our school musical 'Calamity Jane'. I was trying to avoid writing this post because I didn't want it to be over. Now that we've had the end party it is officially finished, so I guess I better tell you about it

Cast and Chorus

When the show week finally came it was great to see everything we've been working on for months finally come together. Everyone put in so much hard work over the months. Even with all the stress and panic that usually comes with productions. It was an amazing experience and I wouldn't change a thing (well maybe a few things but I'm not going to get into that.)

Calamity and the Colonel

I have made some great friends over the months and I got to work with people in many different years in the school.

My Ty year is going to be a bit more empty without the constant rehearsals and work but It will always be something I'll remember.

Being a stage manager and a part of this musical has made think that I might like to go into production or theatre when I'm older.

Jabba Jabba Jembe

Each class in TY spent a day at a Workshop on African Drums.
A man called David came in and showed us how to play some rhythms and here is some of them put together as a group below.

We also watched a video of Bob Geldolf in Africa.
It showed us what living conditions were like in Africa.
David also told us about the time he spent in Africa learning about African drumming.

We also watched a video on how to make a Jembe.
It was really interesting and it showed us that a lot of time went into making one and that Jembe's are special to people in Africa.

Overall it was a really good workshop and I really enjoyed it.
I hope we get to perform something on TY night about it.

The Next Stephen Spielberg (probably not)

 Hey,

This term in Religion we are doing a religion video as part of our NGO 'Empower Girls'. The aim of the video is the promote girls education. I am directing the video and editing it. We are also contacting other schools within Ireland and abroad to take part in our video. I enjoy making videos and I really enjoy doing this project. We aren't finished the video yet but I have edited the footage we already have into a Teaser Video.

 Enjoy!

Mini Company Competition: Bakewave

This Tuesday 11th we had our Mini Company Competition in the school Library. We got to set up our stand and display our product. (Picture on the Left).

Our Product was a brownie in a mug. You basicall took our ingredients added oil and water and put it in the microwave. Its a really good product for people who love the taste of homemade food but maybe don't like all the work involved

We also had to give a presentation to the judges. I was really nervous about it and to be honest I messed up pretty bad. I sort of embarrassed myself. But in the end we won best marketing plan and I'm really happy about how the day went.

Equations, Graphs and Presentations....

Hey Guys,

Last Friday we spent the day in the hall presenting our Science Projects as part of the SciFest Competition. Although our project to us didn't seem to be extremely unique or inventive, the judges seemed to love it as the science was sound and it was well presented.

Our projected was hugely based around the topic of Basketball. Officially our project was called 'Which surface is it easier to play Basketball on?'. Basically the project was which surface causes the ball to bounce higher. What we did was we measured the Potential Energy of the Basketball after it hit each surface. To find the Potential Energy we had to use an equation which I am not going to bore you with. In the end we found that concrete is the best surface because it absorbs less energy.

As I don't play basketball or any sport like that, it is clear that I mainly looked after the science and figures end of things. I also kinda got a bit controlling when it came to presenting and designing the poster. In the end it did look good.

I had great fun doing the project, and my group and I put a lot of effort into the project. This hard work obviously paid off as we got through to the next stage in Tallaght IT in April. We are going to work really hard to prepare for that.

Since before Christmas..

Hey guys,

I've so busy lately that I know I have been neglecting my blog slightly. So I'm going to give you a quick update on what's been going on with me lately...

As you guys know I'm as Music Stage Manager for the school musical, 'Calamity Jane'. Well not that I'm panicking but LESS THAN FOUR WEEKS LEFT!! I'm not stressed... kinda. But I know its going to break and I'm really enjoying the experience of working on something like this. PS We have a Facebook page so be dears and go like it. Much appreciated.

We also went on a maths trip to Rathbeggan Lakes. I know what your thinking, why would we be going to a lake for maths. Well, it actually was quite fun. We went around the park trying to solve maths problems. For a person like me who doesn't enjoy written maths, this was a good way to practise my maths in a productive way. I really enjoyed the day. And it wasn't just because I got KFC on the way home for lunch

We also did Zumba every week. It actually was the best fun I have had while exercising in forever! There is one dance that I absolutely loved and it was this one!

We also went to the Young Scientist. Of course we went to see all the projects and learn lots about science. The most important part of course is getting all the free stuff!!! I'm not even going to try sugar coat this. Whenever a class hears they're going to the young scientist they prepare to bring bags of stuff home. this didn't happen this year. I literally only came home with a bracelet and a highlighter. I did enjoy it though. I even got to take a tour through the digestive system, well it was actually a blow up digestive but nevertheless it was cool.
